How to get There

Le Manoir is located in the sleepy village of Great Milton in Oxfordshire, England. Although only 45 miles to the northwest of London it is a different universe. The street Le Manior is on is barely able to handle two-way traffic. While giving all the feeling of a remote countryside it is still very accessible by car and train. The directions included here are assuming a starting location of either London or one of the two major airports (Heathrow and Gatewick). If you are coming directly from the airport (either Heathrow or Gatewick) then only minor adjustments should be made. See below for important train and auto information or use the transport links to the right to work out your specifics.

By Train

The two possible destination stops on the train are Haddenham and Thame Parkway or Oxford station. While Haddenham and Thame Parkway is the closer stop we recommend that you travel to Oxford instead. In both cases you will need to take a cab for the last part of the journey but whereas Oxford has a cab stand directly outside the station, Haddenham is very remote and you'll need to coordinate with a local cab service. The cab from Oxford station will take about 20-25 minutes and you should expect a fare of roughly £20 (this is a guest); cabs in England, however, are reliable and fair ... you don't need to worry about being overcharged.

By Automobile

Driving will take you roughly an hour to 1.5 hours from downtown London or Gatwick airport. From Heathrow you can reliably get there in 45 minutes to an hour. For those of you travelling from the US or continental Europe please remember ... they drive on the wrong side of the road over here. It isn't actually that tough of an adjustment but getting an automatic transmission might be a good idea for your first time (note: most/many of European rental cars are manual gearboxes so you'll have to specify). Another consideration is whether you want GPS. The GPS systems work really well in the UK and can be helpful for travelers not familiar with the area (especially an area as remote as Great Milton). We would recommend the GPS option but be aware that they don't have a lot of cars with this installed so you'll need to book well in advance.
